Creating an Eportfolio is a process
When your student hands in the final draft of their FRINQ portfolio in the Spring it does not mean their learning is done. Our hope is that they can continue to journal and reflect upon their ongoing education. Therefore, as the instructor you need to stress the PROCESS of making the Eportfolio is important. In the process of making an Eportfolio the student is reflecting upon skills they are acquiring or honing such as writing, working as a member of a group, public speaking and presentations etc. Learning to articulate these skills is in turn an important part of the process of applying for work. Ideally their final portfolio would have a tab for career development where they explore career options, discuss internships and keep an updated resume. As they update, improve or add skills the students can likewise update the resume.
For more on the process of reflecting on learning, see:
Helen Barrett on Metacognition and Reflection. Dr. Barrett's webpage has an impressive repository of work including, this youtube lecture titled " Social Networks and Interactive Portfolios: Blurring the Boundaries"
