As the coordinator for ePortfolio Pedagogy and Training Coordinator for University Studies I want to be sure you have all the resources you need to understand why we use ePortfolios in UNST, how to create a unique and meaningful ePortfolio and how you might use it in the future. I am a member of the Office of Academic Innovation Pebble Pad Stewardship team and have conducted research on the use of ePortfolios at Portland State University. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have: lwbatch@pdx.edu

Here are a few exemplary ePortfolios we discovered when completing our yearly ePortfolio review. This year we focused on the Critical Thinking and Ethical and Social Responsibility rubrics. These portfolios all scored either "5" or "6" on the rubrics being assessed. The University Studies rubrics adhere to a 6 point scale. Generally speaking, a "1" denotes a student who displays early college or late high school competencies and a "6" represents a highly sophisticated senior level of competency.

  • I use this text "Why Reflect" by Dr. Helen Barrett to explain the significance of reflection for learning. She has a nice graphic representation of the brain science behind reflection.

  • There is also a conversation going on at the national level about using ePortfolios to enhance learning. Check out the wonderful C2L website for ideas and inspiration. This site, like Dr. Barrett's, has some wonderful langugage on the "Why" of Eportfolios.
